named after the former queen of Denmark, this cultivar has a somewhat uncertain history. some think it an old Danish variant that used to be called Ellen. others say the queen had it with her from her Swedish castle garden at Sofiero. If you look at the rust red middle and think about how many Swedish cultivars are similar to this one, i reckon the last version to be true.
regardless, this is an extremely popular kind in Scandinavia, especially in Denmark where you'll notice them absolutely everywhere. because of the light pink colour, because of the name but also because it an especially strong cultivar. it grows quickly and therefore it can be used in many creative ways... i've seen a pretty little tree made from a Dronning Ingrid, for example.
